Polyglactine 910 Rapid (PGLAR)

Overview
Premisut PGLAR-910 suture (Polyglactin 910), is a sterile synthetic multifilament braided fast absorbable surgical suture prepared from a co-polymer of 90% Glycolide and 10% L-lactide. Premisut PGLAR-910 suture uses a polymer material with a lower molecular weight than regular Premisut PGLA (Polyglactin-910 suture), making it fast absorbable leading to rapid loss of tensile strength after implantation. Premisut PGLAR-910 suture is available in undyed form. For added lubrication, smooth passage through tissue and easy knot tie down, Premisut PGLAR-910 suture is coated with a mixture composed of Polyglactin 370 co- polymer (30% Glycolide and 70% Lactide) and Calcium Stearate.

Premisut PGLAR-910 suture is intended for use in general soft tissue approximation where only short term wound support is required and where rapid absorption of the suturewould be beneficial. Due to the rapid absorption profile, Premisut PGLAR-910 suture is useful for skin closure, particularly in paediatric surgery, episiotomies, circumcision and closure of oral mucosa. Premisut PGLAR- 910 suture is also useful for conjuctival suturing in ophthalmic surgery.

Premisut PGLAR-910 suture after implantation elicits a mild to moderate initial inflammatory reaction in tissues and is eventually replaced with an ingrowth of fibrous connective tissue. Premisut PGLAR-910 suture being absorbable in nature gets absorbed in the tissues by means of hydrolysis, during which the Polyglactin 910 co-polymer is degraded into Glycolic acid and Lactic acid which is eventually absorbed and metabolized in the body. This process of absorption initially leads to progressive loss of tensile strength, followed by a loss of mass.
