Catgut Chromic

Overview
Premisut Catgut Chromic is a sterile absorbable surgical suture composed of purified connective tissue (collagen) derived from the sub-mucous layer of sheep (bovine) intestine. Premisut Catgut Chromic is available in a range of gauge sizes and lengths, non- needled or attached to stainless steel needles of varying types and sizes. Premisut Catgut Chromic is a suture which has been tanned by treatment with Chromium salt in the trivalent form and colored with oxidised Pyrogallol, colour Index number 76515, to prolong its resistance to absorption and to colour the material dark brown. Premisut Catgut Chromic is packed in conditioning fluid, the constutents of which are isopropanol, water, Sodium Benzoate and Ethylene oxide.
Premisut-Catgut-Chromic
Premisut Catgut Chromic is indicated for use in soft tissue approximation and or ligation, including use in plastic & opthalmic procedures but not for use in cardiovascular and neurological tissues.

When Premisut Catgut Chromic suture is implanted, a moderate tissue inflamation occurs which is characteristic of a foreign body response. Loss of tensile strength and loss of suture mass follows as the proteolytic enzymatic digestive process proteolyse the surgical catgut. Due to the inherent variability of a natural material, figures for strength loss and absorption following implantation are for guidance only. Effectivee strength is usually lost between 10 to 12 days in case of Premisut Catgut Chromic. Absorption is essentially complete by 90-100 days.

The technical characteristics may slightly vary or be adjusted depending on the needs of each market (e.g. coating, tensile strength, needle composition, packaging etc)
