Premisut Catgut Plain is a sterile absorbable surgical suture composed of purified connective tissue (collagen) derived from the sub-mucous layer of sheep (bovine) intestine. Premisut Catgut Plain is available as Plain and in a range of gauge sizes and lengths, non- needled or attached to stainless steel needles of varying types and sizes. Premisut Catgut Plain is packed in conditionining fluid, the constituents of which are isopropanol, water, Sodium Benzoate and Ethylene oxide.
Premisut Catgut Plain is indicated for use in soft tissue approximation and or ligation, including use in plastic & opthalmic procedures but not for use in cardiovascular and neurological tissues.
When Premisut Catgut Plain suture is implanted, a moderate tissue inflamation occurs which is characteristic of a foreign body response. Loss of tensile strength and loss of suture mass follows as the proteolytic enzymatic digestive process proteolyse the surgical catgut. Due to the inherent variability of a natural material, figures for strength loss and absorption following implantation are for guidance only. Effective strength is usually lost between 10 to 12 days in case of Premisut Catgut Plain. Absorption is essentially complete by 90-100 days.
The technical characteristics may slightly vary or be adjusted depending on the needs of each market (e.g. coating, tensile strength, needle composition, packaging etc)
