PREMISUT PDO suture (Polydioxanone), is a sterile synthetic monofilament absorbable surgical suture prepared from the polyester, poly (p-dioxanone). PREMISUT PDO suture is dyed with D&C Violet No 2. PREMISUT PDO suture is available in undyed form also.
PREMISUT PDO suture is intended for use in general soft tissue approximation, including use in paediatric cardiovascular tissue where growth is expected to occur, and ophthalmic surgery. These sutures are particularly useful where the combination of an absorbable suture and extended wound support (up to six weeks) is desirable.
PREMISUT PDO suture has been formulated to minimize the variability of these characteristics and to provide wound support through an extended healing period. After implantation, it elicits a minimal initial inflammatory reaction in tissues and is eventually replaced with an ingrowth of fibrous connective tissue. PREMISUT PDO suture being absorbable in nature gets absorbed in the tissues by means of hydrolysis, during which the Polydioxanone polymer is degraded into monomers of 2-hydroxyethoxyacetic acid which is eventually absorbed and metabolized in the body. This process of absorption initially leads to progressive loss of tensile strength, followed by a loss of mass.
The technical characteristics may slightly vary or be adjusted depending on the needs of each market (e.g. coating, tensile strength, needle composition, packaging etc)
